Nepal Rastra Bank sets daily foreign exchange rates, excluding coins from currency exchange. It allows the exchange of only Indian rupees (INR) in denominations up to INR 100 or below.

Additionally, individuals, whether Nepali or foreign nationals are allowed to carry or bring up to USD 5,000 or equivalent in foreign convertible currency when traveling to or from Nepal. Any amount beyond this must be declared at customs. Nepali citizens can also hold up to USD 1,500 or equivalent in foreign convertible currency, provided its source is disclosed.

Damaged or worn foreign currency notes, including those torn, dirty, burned, or affected by water or insects, can only be exchanged based on the NRB’s clean note policy. These rates are critical for tourists, businesses, and remittances, helping guide international transactions in Nepal.
