Few can resist the charm of Jiri’s scenic landscapes captured on canvas. Veteran artist Ramesh Khanal, after admiring the artwork, remarked, “Ah! Jiri is truly captivating.” He shared this reaction during the opening of the ‘Canvas of Jiri’ art exhibition, which kicked off today at Umoja Cafe in Baneshwar to promote the beauty of the tourist town of Jiri.
The three-day exhibition, organized by the Tourism Promotion Forum Nepal, attracted a significant number of young art enthusiasts on its first day. The exhibition features paintings that depict the natural, cultural, religious, and local lifestyles of Jiri, a town located in the Dolakha district. Six artists – Keshav Raj Khanal, Kishore Ranabhat, Liladhar KC, Mohan Shivakoti, Prakash Mizar, and Shiva Sirpali – have created the artworks using acrylic and watercolor techniques.
Exhibition coordinator Lilaram Khadka emphasized that promoting the beauty of Jiri could attract both domestic and international tourists. He explained that the artists were brought to Jiri for three days to observe, experience, and capture the essence of the town on canvas. “
Artists have beautifully portrayed Jiri’s natural beauty, daily life, culture, architecture, and heritage, which is often referred to as the Switzerland of Nepal among tourists,” Khadka said. He added that Jiri, once known as the gateway to Everest, is now waiting for tourists to rediscover its allure.
The exhibition showcases 36 paintings that depict Jiri’s stunning landscapes, including lakes, waterfalls, temples, monasteries, natural parks, snow, and yaks. These artworks provide a glimpse into the picturesque beauty that Jiri has to offer.
