Two Nepalese mountaineers, Nima Rinji Sherpa and Nirmal Purja (also known as Nimsdai), have made history by setting remarkable world records in climbing the world’s 14 highest peaks.
According to Seven Summit Treks Pvt. Ltd., based in Kathmandu, 18-year-old Nima Rinji Sherpa from Makalu, Sankhuwasabha, became the youngest climber to conquer all 14 of the world’s highest mountains. His latest achievement came on Wednesday when he successfully scaled Shishapangma, the 14th highest mountain located in China. This feat made him the youngest person ever to climb all of these peaks, including Mount Everest.
Meanwhile, renowned climber Nirmal Purja set another world record by becoming the fastest person to summit all 14 of the world’s highest peaks without supplementary oxygen. On Tuesday, Purja reached the summit of Shishapangma, standing at 8,012 meters, without using bottled oxygen.
“Once again, history has been made,” Purja announced via social media, adding, “I have completed all 14 highest peaks without supplemental oxygen in 2 years, 4 months, and 28 days.”
Purja had previously set the record for the fastest ascent of all 14 peaks with supplemental oxygen, a feat he completed in 5 years, 5 months, and 12 days. His campaign to conquer these peaks began on April 23, 2019, and since then, he has summited 8,000-meter peaks 49 times.
In addition to these individual achievements, a dozen other Nepali climbers also successfully summited Shishapangma on Wednesday, further highlighting Nepal’s prominent role in the global mountaineering community.
