Nepal Welcomes Mountaineers Who Set World Records on Shishapangma Summit

Kathmandu celebrated the triumphant return of mountaineers who successfully summited Shishapangma, establishing new world records. The Nepal Mountaineering Association organized a special welcome for them at Tribhuvan International Airport.

The welcome event saw participation from various organizations, including the Nepal National Mountain Guide Association, Magar Association, Gurung Association, Sherpa Tourism Entrepreneurs Association of Nepal, Seven Summit Trek, Elite Exped, Imagine Nepal, and others.

Among the honored climbers was 18-year-old Nima Rinji Sherpa, who became the youngest climber in the world to reach the summit. Dawa Yangzum Sherpa made history as the first Nepali woman to conquer all 14 of the world’s 8,000-meter peaks. Nirmal Purja achieved a remarkable feat by summiting all 14 peaks without supplemental oxygen in record time.

Tejan Gurung became the first climber to summit all 14 peaks, while Pasang Tendi Sherpa was recognized as the first climber from Thame in Solukhumbu to achieve the same. Ming Temba Sherpa and other mountaineers also received accolades for their significant accomplishments.

A total of nine climbers were celebrated during the event, marking a momentous occasion for Nepali mountaineering and the nation’s pride in its climbing heritage.
