Aadhimul in Tanahun Set to Become a Tourist Destination with Artificial Lake and Cultural Attractions

Aabukhaireni Rural Municipality-1, Yanchok, is developing an artificial lake at Aadhimul, offering opportunities for boating and other water-based activities. The rural municipality aims to transform this area into a prominent tourist destination. According to the municipality’s chairperson, Shukra Chuman, the lake is being constructed by pooling water from a natural spring, and the structure is already taking shape. Once completed, the lake will host boating activities, with plans to develop a water fun park as an added attraction.

Aadhimul is also home to a revered temple, making it a significant site for religious tourism. Chairperson Chuman highlighted the plan to integrate religious and tourist activities, noting the influx of pilgrims from various regions. Spread over 15 ropanis of land, the artificial lake project has been allocated a budget of NPR 4 million for the current fiscal year. The municipality also plans to develop walking trails and other tourist-friendly infrastructure, including potential electricity generation through partnerships with the private sector. Discussions with officials from the Tanahun Hydropower Project have already commenced regarding electricity generation from the lake.

Aadhimul has long been recognized as a cultural and religious site. The temple, established in 2035 BS with the active involvement of local Pakuli Pariyar, is dedicated to Aadhimul Barahi. Rituals such as fish funeral rites in the temple pond and offerings like doves, goats, and chickens during specific occasions reflect the area’s unique cultural practices. The site hosts special celebrations during major festivals like Haribodhini Ekadashi, attracting large crowds.

Located just 2.5 kilometers from the Prithvi Highway, Aadhimul is easily accessible, with 900 meters of the road recently blacktopped. The site also features 23 traditional spouts, a temple believed to fulfill wishes, and a serene environment that draws visitors for worship and picnics alike. With its blend of natural beauty, cultural significance, and new developments, Aadhimul is poised to become a key attraction in the region.
