Ambot’s Determination: Donated Funds Create Vital Trekking Path

Residents of Kushma Municipality-3, Ambot, have built a trekking path through donations. Due to the lack of a proper road to reach Ambot Basic School, located about 500 meters above the highway in a forested area, locals from both Nepal and abroad contributed funds for the construction.

According to the school’s principal, Meena Gurung, NPR 1.1 million was raised for the project. The school, which offers English-medium education up to grade three, currently has 31 students.

Established in 1995 with the initiative of social worker Khadka Bahadur Gurung, the school was originally funded by migrants from nearby villages. A donation drive launched last year collected NPR 1,146,723, which was used to construct a 300-meter-long stairway with an iron railing. The remaining funds were used to build a small playground.

Students, aged 2 to 8, previously had to walk on rocky and difficult terrain. The school still faces issues with electricity and drinking water. Located on community forest land, installing utility meters has been a challenge. The school also requires a permanent building and a Montessori teacher. The institution is managed entirely by women, with a female chairperson and four female teachers.
