British Ambassador to Nepal, Rob Fenn, recently congratulated Narayan Shrestha, the winner of the prestigious global baking competition “Bake Off: The Professionals 2024”, during a meeting at the British Embassy in Kathmandu. The event, which took place in the UK, saw Shrestha emerge victorious, showcasing his exceptional baking talents on the world stage.
During the meeting, Ambassador Fenn expressed his admiration for Shrestha’s remarkable journey and inquired about his experience in the competition. Fenn conveyed his desire for Nepal to stand out as a unique destination in the culinary world, attracting tourists from countries like the UK, China, and beyond. He emphasized the importance of promoting Nepal’s tourism sector and elevating it to the upmarket level.
Ambassador Fenn also highlighted the role of the Nepali diaspora in the UK as a crucial element of the bilateral relationship between the two nations. He expressed his hope that young Nepalis would contribute to nation-building by remaining in their homeland and fostering progress.
In a heartwarming gesture, Fenn promised to visit Shrestha at the Intercontinental London – The O2, where he works as a chef, during his next trip to the UK.
Chef Narayan Shrestha, elated by the meeting, expressed his enthusiasm and gratitude for the support he received from Ambassador Fenn. MasterChef Santosh Shah, who also attended the meeting, pledged continued support for Narayan’s progress and success.
The “Bake Off: The Professionals 2024” competition is considered one of the most prestigious and competitive baking contests globally. Chef Narayan Shrestha and his teammate, Tanuj Sharma, claimed the title with their exceptional skills—Narayan specializing in chocolate and Tanuj in sugar work. The duo impressed the judges with their creative presentations in each challenge, ultimately winning the coveted championship.
