Changunarayan Municipality has initiated preparations for Nagarkot Visit Year 2082, aiming to attract 100,000 international tourists and millions of domestic visitors. The program, set to commence on Baishakh 1, 2082, seeks to showcase the area’s rich cultural heritage, natural beauty, ethnic festivals, and local products throughout all nine wards of the municipality.
Comprehensive Development Vision
Speaking about the initiative, Mayor Jeevan Khatri emphasized the long-term vision of developing Nagarkot as a prominent tourist destination. “We are committed to transforming Nagarkot through sustainable development and prosperity. The Visit Year will highlight Nagarkot’s hidden treasures and engage every household in the municipality. This ambitious program is expected to unveil hundreds of unexplored aspects and structures of the area,” he stated.
To ensure the success of the program, a budget of NPR 50 million has been allocated. Various committees and subcommittees will be formed to facilitate inclusive participation from residents across the municipality.
Expanding Tourist Experiences
Nagarkot, renowned for its breathtaking sunrises, sunsets, and Himalayan views, will offer tourists an opportunity to explore all nine wards of Changunarayan Municipality. Mayor Khatri mentioned that arrangements will be made for tourists to also visit nearby destinations like Bhaktapur, Mandandeupur in Kavre, Banepa, and Shankharapur Municipality in Kathmandu. These areas will provide quality accommodation and dining options through hotels and homestays.
Addressing Challenges and Opportunities
Dhyan Bahadur Lama, Ward Chairman of Changunarayan-6 (Nagarkot), acknowledged that the initiative requires support from both provincial and federal governments. He also highlighted long-standing issues, such as incomplete road development over the past 11 years, which has impacted Nagarkot’s tourism potential. The municipality has devised specific action plans to overcome these challenges and attract more visitors.
Calls for Collective Effort
During the announcement, Upendra KC, President of the Press Society, and Roshan Thapa, Chairperson of the Independent Party’s Changunarayan Municipal Committee, stressed the importance of collective efforts to make the Visit Year successful.
With this initiative, Changunarayan Municipality aims to not only boost Nagarkot’s tourism sector but also enhance the region’s overall economic growth by connecting local communities and showcasing their unique offerings to the world.
