Chhatrakot to Launch Zipline for Tourism and Employment Generation

Chhatrakot Rural Municipality in the district is set to launch its first-ever zipline, aimed at boosting tourism and creating job opportunities. The zipline, constructed from the Devalaya Temple in Ward 3 to the Devi Bhagwati Temple, will officially begin operations this Friday.

Chhatrakot’s Municipal Chairman, Ram Prasad Pandey, shared that the initiative is part of their goal to turn Chhatrakot into a prominent tourist destination with the slogan, “Ruru Resunga’s religious hope, stay in Chhatrakot.” He emphasized that the municipality plans to promote its religious and tourist sites while generating revenue through tourism. The zipline is seen as a key part of this strategy to create local employment.

According to Pandey, this zipline is the first of its kind in the district and is designed to attract more visitors. He also highlighted the need for cooperation from other local governments to develop tourism infrastructure across the district. He suggested that if neighboring localities invest in tourist facilities, it could significantly increase the influx of tourists.

The zipline spans 960 meters between two towers, with a total length of 1,080 meters and a height of 67 meters. Tourists will be able to travel between the stations in 55 to 77 seconds, with the duration varying based on their weight. The zipline was constructed by Sanu Setidevi Construction Pvt. Ltd. at a cost of NPR 8.67 million.

The fee for using the zipline is set at NPR 400 for locals, NPR 300 for students, NPR 500 for visitors from outside Chhatrakot, and NPR 1,500 for foreign nationals. Each rider will also be insured for up to NPR 10 million.

The municipality is working on a plan to hand over the zipline’s operation to the private sector to ensure its long-term sustainability. The local community is optimistic about the positive impact on tourism, employment, and the marketing of local products. Bhuwan Bhusal, a local resident, expressed hope that the zipline will create numerous job opportunities and attract both domestic and international tourists, especially those visiting the nearby Choigha Temple for religious purposes.

Additionally, the proximity of the zipline to the Ridi-Tamghas road is expected to draw more internal tourists for picnics and religious visits, further benefiting the local economy.
