CM Lama Highlights Preservation of Makawanpurgadhi for Heritage and Tourism

Bagmati Province Chief Minister Bahadur Singh Lama has emphasized the need to promote and preserve historical sites with significant tourism value. Speaking at the 262nd Victory Celebration of the historic Makawanpurgadhi in Makawanpurgadhi Rural Municipality-2, Chief Minister Lama stated that preserving history will only increase its importance.

Highlighting Makawanpurgadhi as a cornerstone of Nepal’s unification, he mentioned that Prithvi Narayan Shah’s efforts united Nepalese as one, making it imperative for local, provincial, and federal governments to prioritize the Makawanpurgadhi Palace and its significance.

The Chief Minister noted that with the country transitioning to federalism, the provincial government is working at the policy-making level to develop historically and archaeologically significant areas, as well as religious and tourism destinations, for the prosperity of historic Makawanpurgadhi.

He stressed the need to preserve and promote Makawanpurgadhi as a historical fort where the Sen Dynasty kings reigned and the Gorkhali army defeated foreign forces. He highlighted its importance as a national heritage and a root of Nepal’s unification campaign.
Chief Minister Lama added that Makawanpurgadhi, closely tied to the proud history of the Nepalese army, should be preserved as a historical and archaeological site to support eco-tourism development.

The event, chaired by Rural Municipality Chairman Dorje Lama Syangtan, was also attended by the Provincial Minister for Culture and Tourism Bimal Thakuri, Vice-Chairperson Man Kumari Pakhrin, and other representatives.
