Deputy Prime Minister and Urban Development Minister Prakash Man Singh has stated that promoting folk culture contributes to the overall development of the nation. He emphasized that traditions and culture not only uphold the nation’s identity but also play a key role in its holistic development.
Speaking at the inauguration of the Dhading Folk Cultural Festival, Deputy Prime Minister Singh highlighted the importance of promoting folk culture for economic growth, social unity, and tourism development. He said that such festivals enhance the nation’s identity while contributing to economic development, fostering social harmony, and promoting tourism.
“Nepali folk culture and traditions attract foreigners more than locals.
Festivals like these can serve as a medium to draw both foreign and domestic tourists, which in turn helps boost the tourism industry,” Singh remarked. “Organizing festivals stimulates economic activities such as the sale of local products, hotel businesses, handicrafts, and transportation services, thereby energizing the local economy.”
He also stressed the need to preserve cultural identity by showcasing traditional practices, attire, music, dance, and art. Singh expressed his belief that such festivals inspire the younger generation to take pride in their own culture.
The Dhading Folk Cultural Festival has been organized by the National Folk and Duet Song Academy Dhading and the Community Communication and Development Center Dhading to promote Dhading’s indigenous folk culture, cultural identity, and traditional heritage. The festival, which began today, will run until February 2.
According to the festival’s main organizing committee coordinator, Deepak Koirala, the funds raised from the event will be used to establish an Artist Welfare Fund through the National Folk and Duet Song Academy Dhading to support artists in need.
The festival’s main attraction will be the inter-municipality folk duet competition, with a special focus on foods that reflect ethnic and traditional identities.
