The picturesque town of Bandipur, renowned as a prime tourist destination in chilly seasons, has seen a decline in the number of tourists staying overnight. Although there has been a rise in domestic visitors, the trend of returning the same day has impacted the number of overnight stays, according to Kishan Pradhan, Chairperson of the Bandipur Tourism Development Committee.
“Tourists staying overnight usually come in packages. However, most visitors prefer day trips, exploring throughout the day and returning in the evening,” Pradhan explained. He estimated that Bandipur currently welcomes over 500 tourists daily, with a significant spike in numbers on public holidays and Saturdays.
Foreign tourists continue to visit Bandipur in considerable numbers, with the majority hailing from China. Additionally, visitors from countries including Japan, Italy, Spain, the Netherlands, France, the USA, Germany, Denmark, Pakistan, Australia, the UK, Ireland, South Korea, Belgium, Thailand, Taiwan, Switzerland, Malaysia, Holland, Portugal, the Czech Republic, Iran, India, Greece, and Argentina have also been recorded.

In preparation for “Bandipur Tourism Year 2025,” a year-long series of programs has been planned to attract both domestic and international tourists. Vais Gurung, the campaign coordinator, stated, “We are working on various initiatives to promote tourism here. A special event is being organized for the English New Year, and preparations are in full swing.” These programs will include promotional campaigns in major cities such as Kathmandu, Pokhara, Chitwan, and Lumbini to highlight Bandipur’s unique offerings.
Bandipur’s charm lies in its traditional Bhaktapur-style architecture, cultural landmarks, and natural beauty. Key attractions include Tudhikhel, Thanimai, Teendhara, Raniban, Ramkot, Sunkhari, Khaddevi Temple, Bindhyabasini Temple, Mahalakshmi Temple, and an information center. These sites have become central points of interest for visitors.
The town is accessible via an eight-kilometer uphill drive from Dumre, which is 18 kilometers from the district headquarters of Damauli. Bandipur offers breathtaking views of mountain ranges, hills, and scenic landscapes, including the Annapurna, Machhapuchhre, and Dhaulagiri peaks. Gurung noted that the panoramic views and natural beauty have been a significant draw for tourists.
Efforts to bolster Bandipur’s tourism include a focus on infrastructure development, cultural events, and nature-based experiences, making it a must-visit destination for travelers seeking a blend of heritage and natural splendor.
