Dholalghat, Bhulmu Municipality Prepares for Motorboat Operations on Sunkoshi and Indrawati Rivers

The scenic Dholalghat area in Bhulmu Municipality, known for its natural beauty, is set to begin motorboat operations on the Sunkoshi and Indrawati rivers. As per an agreement signed a year ago between the municipality and Mahakal Water Services, testing for the operation of motorboats has begun.

According to Municipality Chairman Prembahadur Bhujel, a motorboat is currently being tested for its route and to identify potential obstacles or risks based on water flow. The test runs have successfully covered the confluence of the two rivers—Indrawati to the north and Sunkoshi to the east—without any issues. The tests, conducted last week, showed no disruptions, indicating positive prospects for the project.

“The technical team has suggested that the tests have shown good potential. After further testing, discussions will be held between both parties to finalize the operational plan,” Bhujel explained. The plan is to operate motorboats along the rivers as part of the government’s central program, with an eventual route extending from Dholalghat to Chatara in Sunsari.

In the first phase, motorboat services will be introduced on a one-kilometer stretch from Dholalghat to Khahareghat. Additional motorboats will be deployed as needed to enhance the service. The operation of motorboats is expected to promote tourism in Bhulmu and contribute to the overall development of the area.

Following successful trials, the municipality plans to purchase a motorboat to expand the service further. Additionally, rafting services have been operating along a five-kilometer stretch of the Sunkoshi River from Dholalghat to Nepalthok in Sindhuli as part of ongoing tourism promotion efforts.

This new initiative is expected to not only boost local tourism but also provide a unique way for both domestic and international visitors to explore the region’s rivers.
