Focus on Promoting Kanchenjunga Region as a Key Tourist Destination

Taplejung’s Kanchenjunga region has been highlighted as a significant destination for global tourists, emphasizing the need for infrastructure development and promotion to fully capitalize on its potential. At an interaction program organized by Samriddha Pahad and the Nepal-China Friendship Forum, stakeholders discussed strategies to enhance the area’s appeal.

Kanchenjunga, the world’s third-highest mountain, and its surrounding regions continue to attract both domestic and international tourists. Stakeholders believe that with targeted efforts, the region can become an ideal tourist destination.

Deepak Joshi, Chief Executive Officer of Nepal Tourism Board, expressed optimism about the increasing number of visitors to the Kanchenjunga region. He committed to providing necessary support to promote the area further.

Former president of the Mountaineering Association and Samriddha Pahad board member Ang Tshering Sherpa stressed the importance of creating tourist, community, and business-friendly policies. Similarly, Samriddha Pahad CEO Sanjeev Neupane highlighted the region’s biodiversity and the need for collaborative efforts to boost the local economy.

Trekking Agencies’ Association of Nepal (TAAN) President Sagar Pandey pointed out mismatches between tourist preferences and investment priorities due to technological advancements. Former TAAN President Jyoti Adhikari emphasized the economic benefits of promoting Kanchenjunga globally.

Dr. Kalyan Raj Sharma, Chairman of the Nepal-China Friendship Forum, called for investments and infrastructure development to harness the immense potential of the Kanchenjunga region.

Participants, including tourism entrepreneurs, local community representatives, and conservation area officials, underscored the importance of collective efforts to promote tourism in the region. They stressed that strategic promotion and collaboration could uplift the economic status of local communities and enhance Nepal’s reputation as a premier adventure tourism destination.
