Minister for Culture, Tourism, and Civil Aviation, Badri Prasad Pandey, has announced the establishment of a welfare fund dedicated to mountaineers. This fund aims to ensure the social security of climbers while encouraging their pursuits in mountaineering activities.
During a felicitation program on Sunday, Minister Pandey honored Phunjo Jangmu Lama and her team for their extraordinary achievements in mountaineering. The event, organized by Chum Nubri Rural Municipality in Gorkha, recognized Lama for setting a remarkable record by summiting Mount Everest in the shortest time of 14 hours and 31 minutes.

In addition to Lama, other notable climbers, including Mingmar Chhiring Lama, Nangsel Choidon Lama, Nanu Maya Gurung, Diki Lhamu Lama, and Yukta Gurung, were also honored for their contributions and records in mountaineering.
The initiative to establish the welfare fund underscores the government’s commitment to supporting and celebrating the efforts of mountaineers while promoting Nepal’s identity as a global hub for adventure tourism.
