HRA Conducts Advanced Wilderness First Aid Training for Trekking Guides

The Himalayan Rescue Association Nepal (HRA) successfully conducted an Advanced Wilderness First Aid Training on August 22 and 23 at its office in Lazimpat, Kathmandu, for a new group of trekking guides from Nepal Hiking Team.

The two-day training held by HRA aimed to strengthen the guides’ knowledge, practical skills, and confidence in responding to medical emergencies and challenging situations in remote and mountainous environments.

Practical Training for Wilderness Emergencies Held By HRA

The training combined interactive classroom sessions with practical, hands-on exercises, allowing participants to gain both theoretical knowledge and practical experience in handling emergencies in the wilderness.

The sessions covered a wide range of essential topics related to mountain medicine and first aid, including altitude sickness, Basic Life Support (BLS), trauma management, seizures, cold injuries, environmental emergencies, and common medical emergencies.

Participants also received training on the proper use of Gamow bags and oxygen, patient transfer techniques, first-aid kit management, spinal injuries, dislocations, bites and stings, and other emergency situations that trekking guides may encounter during mountain journeys.

Strengthening Safety in the Mountains

HRA highlighted the importance of equipping trekking guides with appropriate emergency response skills, particularly as they often serve as the first point of assistance when medical emergencies occur in remote trekking destinations.

The association expressed its appreciation to the instructors for sharing their expertise and providing valuable guidance throughout the training. It also thanked the participating trekking guides for their active involvement and commitment to improving safety standards in Nepal’s mountains. The training emphasized the message: Better prepared, better equipped, and safer journeys.
