Lalitpur, known for its rich cultural heritage, is now home to the newly upgraded Himalaya Five-Star Hotel, a renowned establishment located in the picturesque Kupandole Height. With a history of 38 years, the hotel has undergone significant infrastructural improvements, which have led to its recognition as a five-star property by the Department of Tourism. This marks a pivotal moment in the tourism sector, as it is now the second five-star hotel within the Lalitpur Metropolitan City. Prior to this upgrade, the city already hosted the Vivanta Hotel, a joint investment project by the Chaudhary Group and Ravi Bhakta Shrestha.
The hotel’s management revealed that this upgrade places Lalitpur on the map as a growing hub for luxury tourism, with the addition of modern facilities and services. The hotel is situated within the metropolitan boundaries of Lalitpur, with the Chaudhary Group having two other five-star projects under construction one in Jhamsikhel and another in the Kupandole Height area, previously known as Summit Hotel. Additionally, the Gun Group is working on a 300-room capacity hotel in Gwarko.

Originally recognized as a four-star hotel in 2017, the Himalaya Hotel was among the first in the Kathmandu Valley to hold this status, alongside Hotel Shanker. However, with the addition of new facilities, more four-star properties have emerged in the region. The hotel’s commitment to upgrading its services has ensured that it remains a competitive force in Nepal’s hospitality industry.

The Himalaya Five-Star Hotel is spread over an impressive 6.58 acres of land in Lalitpur’s Ward Number 10. The recent developments include a five-story new building with 126 rooms, bringing the total capacity of the hotel to 200 beds. Situated just 8 kilometers from Tribhuvan International Airport and only 2 kilometers from Sundhara in Kathmandu, the hotel’s strategic location offers easy access to major landmarks. It is also a short 1.5 kilometers away from the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Patan Durbar Square.

One of the standout features of the hotel is its blend of traditional Nepali architecture and modern facilities. A Kumari Temple, built in the traditional style, and a beautifully landscaped garden within the hotel premises provide guests with a serene and peaceful atmosphere, offering a calm retreat amidst the hustle and bustle of the city. The hotel now boasts enhanced amenities, including a laundry service, a health club, expanded parking, and two swimming pools. The building has also been designed with accessibility in mind, with structures that allow easy access for differently-abled individuals.

Guests can enjoy breathtaking views of the majestic Himalayan range from the hotel’s garden, offering a 180-degree panoramic experience. The hotel’s international-level restaurant, Café Horizon, serves exquisite meals, and personalized dining options are available for guests wishing to dine in the comfort of their rooms. For those looking to maintain physical and mental well-being, the hotel offers a tennis court, swimming pool, and a health club on-site.
The Himalaya Hotel’s journey began in 1976 with just 96 rooms. Over the years, it has evolved, and in 2009, a fourth floor was added to the original structure, bringing the hotel’s capacity to 200 beds and 125 rooms. This transformation has played a significant role in elevating the hotel’s status, making it one of the most distinguished properties in the Kathmandu Valley today. With its recent five-star recognition, the Himalaya Hotel stands as a testament to the continuous growth and development of Nepal’s hospitality industry, offering both luxury and cultural charm to visitors from around the world.
