An injured leopard found near Birinchok, Gorkha Municipality-10, has been discovered dead. The leopard, which was found injured in the bushes of a nearby stream, succumbed to its injuries due to delays in rescue operations.
According to Madan Mohan Shalini, Chief of the Division Forest Office in Gorkha, the deceased leopard was an adult female. He explained, “After locals reported the injured leopard, we dispatched staff from the Division Forest Office on Wednesday to attempt a rescue throughout the day. Unfortunately, we were unable to reach it in time.”
On Thursday, when the rescue team returned to the same location, they found the leopard dead near a water tank close to Birinchok Market. Shalini noted that there were no visible injuries on the leopard’s body. “There were no external wounds,” he said. “The leopard might have either been poisoned or died from natural causes.”
Shalini also mentioned that delays in the rescue operation were due to the lack of personnel and equipment, such as tranquilizers, required for safely capturing the leopard.
The dead leopard has been sent to the veterinary hospital and animal service center for examination, and its remains have been buried on the Division Forest Office premises.
