Manaslu Region Sees Record-Breaking Tourist Numbers in 2024

In 2024, the Manaslu region saw an increase in foreign tourist arrivals, with 10,600 international visitors, a rise of 1,500 from the previous year. This marks the highest number of tourists to visit the region so far, according to the Manaslu Conservation Area Project (MCAP).

The majority of foreign visitors came from Europe and America, with France leading the way with 1,335 tourists, followed by 1,181 Germans and 796 Americans. Among SAARC nations, India had the highest number of visitors, with 159 individuals.

Tourists are required to pay an entry fee at designated counters in Kathmandu and Pokhara, with different rates for SAARC and non-SAARC nationals. The Manaslu region considered a restricted area, requires tourists to obtain permission from the Immigration Department, with special permits for the Tsum and Nubri Valleys, which charge additional fees depending on the season.

Starting October 1, 2023, Chumnubri Rural Municipality began collecting revenue from both domestic and international tourists in the area, covering the Nubri and Tsum valleys, known for their rich cultural heritage and scenic beauty.

The Manaslu region, open to tourists since 2005, continues to be a sought-after destination for trekkers and adventure enthusiasts, offering a unique experience amidst stunning natural landscapes.
