Helicopter Flights in Khumbu Region Set to Resume Following Obstruction Removal

There are positive signs that the obstruction to helicopter flights in the Khumbu region will be resolved. Following an all-party meeting on Friday, it was agreed that rescue flights would resume after the local level removed barriers at the helipad.

The meeting, organized by the Airlines Operators Association of Nepal (AOAN), the Sagarmatha National Park Office, civil Aviation Authority of Nepal, Solukhumbu District Administration, Khumbu Pasanglhamu Rural Municipality, and other stakeholders, agreed that the local authorities would clear the obstacles. The AOAN confirmed that rescue flights would resume once the obstruction was cleared.

Solukhumbu Chief District Officer (CDO), Anoj Kumar Ghimire, confirmed that the municipality had removed the obstacles over the past two days, allowing rescue flights to begin. Ghimire also mentioned that anyone in need of a helicopter for rescue purposes could now request one.

Furthermore, Ghimire noted that within 15 days, an agreement would be reached for regular helicopter flights in the area. Although the National Park Office had earlier submitted a request for the restart of helicopter services, local objections and blockages had delayed the process.
