NATTA Initiates a Dynamic Three-Day Wellness Tourism Capacity Building Workshop

The Nepal Association of Tour & Travel Agents (NATTA) inaugurated the Wellness Tourism Capacity Building Workshop. Nepal has taken a major step toward positioning itself as a rising hub for global wellness tourism with the inauguration of the Wellness Tourism Capacity Building Workshop, organized by the Nepal Association of Tour & Travel Agents (NATTA). The three-day national workshop commenced today at Hotel Radisson, Lazimpat, bringing together more than 55 participants representing travel and tour companies, wellness service providers, SMEs, development partners, hotels, resorts, and a wide range of private-sector stakeholders. Their strong presence at the opening session reflects growing national commitment to developing a competitive and sustainable wellness tourism ecosystem in Nepal.

International Collaboration and Expert-led Training

The workshop is being conducted in partnership with the Asian Productivity Organisation (APO), Nepal in Business (NIB), and the Nepal Productivity and Economic Development Centre Ltd. (NPEDC). The program features internationally respected wellness specialists from Australia, Ms. Katherine Droga and Ms. Sharon Kolkka, who will lead specialized modules on:

  • Wellness product and experience development
  • Branding and destination positioning
  • Global market readiness and wellness traveller insights
  • Certification pathways and international standards
  • Digital identity, marketing strategies, and sustainability frameworks

Their expertise is expected to provide critical guidance in elevating Nepal’s capacity to design, package, and promote world-class wellness tourism experiences.

Nepal’s Cultural and Natural Strengths at the Core

In his welcome address, NATTA President Kumar Mani Thapaliya emphasized that wellness is not a new concept for Nepal, but an integral part of its cultural, spiritual, and ecological heritage. From ancient healing traditions to the tranquility of the Himalayas, he highlighted that Nepal holds natural advantages that can be strategically shaped into a powerful tourism identity.

He underscored that the workshop marks a significant move toward defining “Himalayan Wellness – The Spirit of Balance” as Nepal’s distinctive global brand, one that represents harmony, mindfulness, and natural rejuvenation.

Commitment to Inclusive and Sustainable Growth

President Thapaliya further reaffirmed NATTA’s dedication to enhancing institutional capacity across the sector, improving service delivery, and fostering authentic wellness experiences rooted in Nepal’s traditions. He noted that strengthening the wellness tourism value chain can generate meaningful opportunities for women, youth, and local communities, promoting entrepreneurship and inclusive economic growth.

Comprehensive Training to Strengthen Nepal’s Positioning

Over the next three days, participants will undertake in-depth workshops, interactive exercises, strategy discussions, and practical learning components covering:

  • Global foundations and emerging trends in wellness tourism
  • Profiling wellness travellers and understanding industry shifts
  • Designing holistic itineraries and region-based wellness circuits
  • Branding frameworks, digital marketing, and market expansion
  • Quality assurance, sustainability principles, and readiness for certification
  • National policy alignment and long-term sectoral strategies

The program also includes a field visit to a model wellness facility, offering hands-on exposure to operational standards and guest experience design.

NATTA extended its gratitude to APO, NIB, NPEDC, and all participating institutions for their collaboration in advancing Nepal’s wellness tourism vision. The organization expressed confidence that this workshop will serve as a strategic catalyst in diversifying Nepal’s tourism offerings, promoting year-round travel, and positioning the country as a destination for healing, balance, and transformative experiences.
