The Nepal Academy of Science and Technology (NAST) and the Department of Indian Languages at Banaras Hindu University (BHU) in Varanasi, India, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to advance research and study in Nepali language, literature, culture, and philosophy.
The MoU was signed by Dr. Dhanprasad Suvedi, Member Secretary of NAST, and Prof. Diwakar Pradhan, Head of the Department of Indian Languages. The agreement includes a commitment to regularly organize programs and discussions on Nepali language literature and its Indian counterparts.
The two parties have agreed to collaborate on research, study, and translation to enhance the prominence of the Nepali language. NAST has committed to providing scholarships to research students at the Department of Indian Languages and to encourage research in Indian Nepali language and literature.
The MoU was facilitated by Dharma Raj Baral, Chief Advisor of Pashupati Vedic Ashram Gurukul School in Nawalpur, who played a crucial role in bringing the two sides together. The agreement was witnessed by Prof. Hariprasad Adhikari of Sampurnanand Sanskrit University in Varanasi, Krishna Raj Adhikari, a member of the NAST Council, and Dr. Mukund Sharma, Head of the Nepal Desk at the Department of Indian Languages, BHU. Baral has emphasized that there will be a continuous citizen-level campaign to implement the MoU effectively.
