To attract more Buddhist tourists from Myanmar, a predominantly Buddhist country, Nepal has promoted Buddhist tourism in Yangon. The Nepal Tourism Board organized the “Nepal-Myanmar Trade and Tourism Expo-2025” to promote tourism. The event, held on Chaitra 8 and 9, was a collaboration between the Board and the Nepalese Embassy in Myanmar, marking the 65th diplomatic anniversary between the two countries.

The expo focused on promoting Buddhist tourism, along with showcasing Nepal’s tourism products, IT solutions, and other goods. The event saw the participation of 16 tourism companies from Nepal and 30 from Myanmar. Nepal encouraged the tourists to visit Lumbini, accessible via flights from the Gautam Buddha International Airport in Bhairahawa.

The Board also presented Nepal’s IT sector as a potential collaborator for it’s banking and financial technology development. The event was inaugurated by Myanmar’s Federal Minister U Tun Aung, Nepal’s Ambassador Hari Chand Ghimire, and other officials. The discussion centered on strengthening trade and tourism relations between the two countries.

On the second day of the event, the Nepalese Embassy organized a ‘live food station’ offering traditional Nepali dishes like momo, selroti, and Nepali tea, which were enjoyed by diplomats from various countries. The Nepal Tourism Board also committed to further strengthening relations with the country and promoting Buddhist tourism and IT collaboration.
