This marked the first meeting between the parliamentary committees of the two countries, as noted by Rajkishore Yadav, Chairman of the Tourism Committee. Yadav described the interaction as a significant step in parliamentary diplomacy and exchange.

The meeting focused on strengthening the friendly and cooperative relationship between Nepal and Norway. Discussions covered parliamentary governance, democratic processes, and collaborative efforts on global agendas. Both nations’ representatives expressed their commitment to work together based on shared values of democracy, human rights, and social justice.

Additionally, the two sides agreed to collaborate on international platforms to mitigate the effects of climate change and achieve sustainable development goals. Chairman Yadav provided the Norwegian delegation with insights into Nepal’s federal parliamentary system, its structure, and the roles of parliamentary committees. He emphasized the importance of addressing public concerns and ensuring that citizens’ voices are heard in Nepal’s parliament.

The 14-member Norwegian delegation, led by former Foreign Minister and Defense Minister Ine Marie Eriksen Søreide, is visiting Nepal. Søreide, a member of the Conservative Party, served as Norway’s Defense Minister from 2013 to 2017 and as Foreign Minister from 2017 to 2021.
