Pattek Danda, a picturesque tourist destination located on the border of Tehrathum and Dhankuta districts, is rapidly gaining popularity among domestic tourists. Situated at an altitude of 2,702 meters above sea level, the site offers stunning views of the Makalu and Kanchenjunga mountain ranges, along with panoramic vistas of Tehrathum, Dhankuta, and neighboring districts during clear weather.
Famed for its breathtaking sunrise and sunset views, Pattek Danda is listed among Nepal’s top 100 tourist destinations by the government. The site is accessible via a 45-minute uphill trek from Sidhua Bazaar, located in Chatharjorpati Rural Municipality of Dhankuta along the Koshi Highway.
To enhance accessibility, the local government, in collaboration with federal and provincial authorities, has constructed stairs with railings from Sidhua Bazaar. Facilities such as restrooms and picnic spots have also been developed at the site. According to local resident Chirring Sherpa, these infrastructure improvements have significantly increased tourist activity in the area.
Local entrepreneur Megh Raj Ghimire highlighted that the inclusion of Pattek Danda in the government’s top 100 destinations has boosted the influx of domestic tourists. He noted a positive impact on the business activities in Sidhua Bazaar, emphasizing the need for additional tourism-friendly infrastructure and promotional efforts to maximize the site’s potential.
Pattek Danda has become a favorite stop for visitors exploring the Tinjure-Milke-Jaljale (TMJ) area, known as the rhododendron capital of Nepal. The area attracts significant footfall during the winter picnic season and the rhododendron blooming season.
With strategic promotion and eco-friendly infrastructure development, Pattek Danda holds the potential to attract tourists year-round, contributing to the region’s economic growth and enhancing its status as a key destination in eastern Nepal.
