Plans to strengthen air connectivity between Pokhara and India are drawing attention as Nepal’s tourism capital continues to seek more international flight links from Pokhara International Airport. Reports have indicated the possibility of an IndiGo service connecting Pokhara with New Delhi, with September 23 mentioned as a potential launch date. However, the proposed service has not yet been confirmed through an official announcement from IndiGo or Pokhara International Airport. Current flight-search information also does not clearly establish a new nonstop IndiGo service on the Pokhara–New Delhi route.
India Connectivity Could Open New Tourism Opportunities
If direct flights between Pokhara and major Indian cities are introduced, they could create easier access for Indian visitors to one of Nepal’s most popular tourism destinations. Pokhara is a major gateway to the Annapurna region and is known for its lakes, mountain views, adventure activities and hospitality services. Improved air access could also benefit Nepali travellers, tourism businesses and other sectors by reducing the need for travellers from Pokhara to first travel to Kathmandu for international connections.
Pokhara Seeks Stronger International Air Links
The potential India connection comes as Pokhara prepares for another major expansion in international connectivity. Flydubai is scheduled to begin daily direct Dubai–Pokhara flights from September 23, 2026, with the first flight expected to arrive at Pokhara International Airport that evening. Pokhara’s tourism sector has already begun working with government and business stakeholders to promote and sustain the upcoming Dubai service, reflecting growing efforts to establish the airport as a viable international gateway.
India Route Could Strengthen Pokhara’s Tourism Gateway Role
India remains an important market for Nepal’s tourism industry, particularly for leisure, pilgrimage and cultural travel. Direct connectivity from Pokhara could make the city more accessible to visitors from northern Indian markets and create opportunities for tourism businesses to develop new travel products. For now, however, the reported IndiGo–New Delhi service should be regarded as a proposed or reported connection rather than a confirmed flight. An official announcement from the airline or airport would be needed before the September 23 launch can be reported as confirmed.
