Ramechhap and Dolakha Collaborate for Joint Tourism Development in Shailung

Representatives from the neighboring districts of Ramechhap and Dolakha have reached a joint agreement to develop tourism in Shailung. Despite tense relations in the past due to border disputes, the representatives from both districts have now decided to collaborate on the collective development of Shailung.

In a discussion held in Dolakha’s Shailung Rural Municipality, representatives from both districts agreed to formulate a joint plan on various issues, including environmental conservation, tourism promotion, setting cleanliness fees, and improving road and transport management.

The program was attended by Prem Kumar Lama, Ward Chair of Doramba Shailung Rural Municipality in Ramechhap, tourism entrepreneur Dawa Sangbu Sherpa, and hotel and transport business owners. Similarly, Rimala Babu Shrestha, Chair of Shailung Rural Municipality in Dolakha, Ward Chair Bir Bahadur Tamang, and other local representatives also participated in the event.

Complaints had been received about transportation difficulties due to the poor condition of the road between Kalapani and Kalingchok in Dolakha, which is used by tourists entering Shailung from the southern region. In response, an agreement was made to improve the road from Shailung’s Mrigsthali Hill to Khola Khark and from Khola Khark to Ramechhap’s Doramba Shailung, thus ensuring a smoother transportation environment.

Additionally, it was agreed to operate regular bus services along the Khola Khark–Dadua route to contribute to the road’s sustainability. There are two main entry points to Shailung: one from Kalapani in Dolakha and another from Khola Khark in Ramechhap.

During the winter, tourists from both Nepal and abroad visit Shailung for sightseeing. Many visitors come to enjoy snow sports in the cold season to view the rhododendrons and enjoy nature during Chait and Baisakh.

Previously, Ramechhap’s relationship with local representatives from Dolakha had been strained due to a border dispute regarding Shailung. However, they have now decided to cooperate for joint development. This decision by the representatives of both districts to work together on the tourism development of Shailung is expected to strengthen the tourism industry in the region.
