Rupa Tal, Energy, Water Resources, and Irrigation Minister Deepak Khadka has instructed concerned authorities to ensure the timely completion of the Rupa Tal conservation project, emphasizing the importance of quality work and collaboration among stakeholders. The minister issued these directions during his inspection of the ongoing conservation work by the Irrigation and Water Resources Management Project, Kaski, which is responsible for the restoration of the lake.
Minister Khadka acknowledged the historical and environmental significance of Rupa Tal, a crucial water resource located in the Kaski district. During the inspection, he highlighted that the lake’s preservation is vital for the surrounding ecosystem and the livelihoods of local communities. “Rupa Tal holds significant historical value and ecological importance. It is our responsibility to preserve it for future generations. We must prioritize this project, ensure timely completion, and maintain high standards of quality in our work,” he said, urging all involved to expedite their efforts and complete the project on schedule.
The conservation work is part of an ambitious project aimed at restoring the Rupa Tal lake, which spans over 122 hectares of land. Currently, the project includes the construction of a 590-meter soil embankment and a 45-meter concrete dam, both of which are intended to improve the lake’s water storage capacity and prevent further erosion. Once the conservation work is completed, the lake’s total area is expected to expand to 183 hectares, offering significant ecological benefits to the region.

In addition to the embankment and dam construction, the project also involves the creation of a pedestrian pathway around the lake. According to Bidurman Shrestha, the project’s chief, the pathway will enhance the overall accessibility of the area for visitors, boosting tourism and local development. However, for the construction of the pathway, approximately 1,100 ropanis of land must be acquired. To date, 900 ropanis of the required land have already been secured, with the remaining acquisition expected to be completed soon.
Minister Khadka assured that the Ministry would take all necessary steps to ensure that funding for the project is not hindered by budget constraints. He emphasized the need for effective coordination among various government bodies to guarantee the smooth execution of the project without financial delays. “We are committed to providing the required resources and ensuring that the project is not delayed due to lack of funding. The Ministry will coordinate with all relevant agencies to ensure the timely completion of this important initiative,” he stated.
The Rupa Tal conservation project is considered a key initiative for the region, as it aims to enhance water storage for irrigation purposes, improve biodiversity, and support local livelihoods. The project is also expected to contribute significantly to environmental conservation efforts in the area, promoting sustainable development in the region. The project’s completion will not only improve the local water supply but also support the local economy, especially through tourism and recreation.

In addition to the physical infrastructure, the project also focuses on community engagement and awareness, ensuring that residents and stakeholders are informed and involved in the conservation efforts. The government is committed to promoting sustainable tourism and environmental conservation by actively involving the community in the management and protection of Rupa Tal.
During his visit to the site, Minister Khadka was joined by several senior political figures, including Nepali Congress General Secretary Bishwaprakash Sharma, Deputy General Secretary Jeevan Pariyar, and Central Committee Member Yagya Bahadur Thapa. The delegation inspected the ongoing work and discussed the future plans for the conservation of the lake.

The team also met with local officials, including project staff and community representatives, to review the progress and address any challenges faced by the project. Minister Khadka assured that the government would continue to support the project and ensure that all necessary resources are provided to ensure its success.
The Rupa Tal conservation project is an essential step in preserving the region’s natural resources, improving the local environment, and supporting economic growth through tourism and agriculture. As the project moves forward, local authorities, government officials, and community members are working together to ensure that Rupa Tal remains a vital resource for future generations.
Minister Khadka concluded his visit by reaffirming his commitment to ensuring the project’s success. “This is an important initiative for our country, and we must ensure that Rupa Tal is preserved for the benefit of future generations. We will continue to monitor the progress closely and provide any necessary support to ensure that this project is completed on time and to the highest standards,” he said.

The Rupa Tal conservation project marks a significant step forward in Nepal’s ongoing efforts to conserve and restore its natural resources, supporting sustainable development while enhancing the well-being of local communities. The successful completion of this project will stand as a testament to the country’s commitment to protecting its environmental heritage and advancing its tourism and agricultural sectors.
