Senior Tourism Entrepreneur and Nepali Congress Leader Devendra Wagle Laid to Rest

Senior Nepali Congress leader and veteran tourism entrepreneur Devendra Wagle was laid to rest at Pashupati Aryaghat. Wagle, who passed away Sunday evening at HAMS Hospital due to liver complications, was given a heartfelt farewell by prominent leaders and members of the tourism industry.

Wagle, who was also a convention representative for the Nepali Congress from Gorkha, received his final tribute with the party flag draped over his body. Nepali Congress Vice President and former Deputy Prime Minister Purna Bahadur Khadka, Vice President Dhanraj Gurung, and General Secretaries Gagan Kumar Thapa and Bishwaprakash Sharma honored him during the ceremony.

The event saw the presence of Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Urban Development Prakash Man Singh, Joint General Secretary and Minister of Culture, Tourism, and Civil Aviation Badri Prasad Pandey, and former General Secretary Krishna Prasad Sitaula, along with other central members of Nepali Congress, including Bal Bahadur KC, Shankar Bhandari, Kamala Pant, Ramhari Khatiwada, Abdul Sattar, and House of Representatives member Rajendra Bajgain. Additionally, Gorkha Congress President Nanda Prasad Neupane and several leaders and tourism entrepreneurs paid their respects.

Wagle, aged 55, had been admitted to the hospital on Kartik 19 due to liver complications. He was a former General Secretary of the Nepal Association of Tour and Travel Agents (NATTA), affiliated with the Nepali Congress.

A respected figure in Nepal’s tourism industry for over three decades, Wagle had established multiple businesses, including hotels, travel agencies, and tours in Thamel. His investments also extended to hydropower, insurance, and banking sectors. Devendra Wagle was the son of former Congress leader and minister Chiranjivi Wagle, further underscoring his family’s long-standing involvement in public service and tourism.
