The Trekking Agencies’ Association of Nepal (TAAN) has postponed its previously scheduled 48th Annual General Meeting (AGM) following the devastating Bhote Koshi River flood and its impact on tourism destinations and infrastructure in several districts. TAAN had earlier announced that its 48th AGM would be held on September 24, 2026. However, the association has now suspended all programs related to the AGM in view of the serious consequences of the recent flood.
Flood Impact Leads to AGM Postponement
According to a notice issued by TAAN, the decision was taken in an emergency meeting of the association’s Executive Committee held on Bhadra 15, 2083. The decision came after the Bhote Koshi River flood on Bhadra 10, which caused serious damage to tourism destinations and physical infrastructure in Rasuwa, Nuwakot, Dhading and Gorkha.
The association said the disaster also resulted in the loss of lives, including foreign tourists and members of support teams, highlighting the gravity of the situation for Nepal’s tourism industry.
Taking the circumstances into consideration, the executive committee decided to postpone all programs scheduled for the AGM on September 24.
New AGM Date Yet to Be Fixed
TAAN has not announced a new date for the 48th AGM. The association’s latest notice states that a new date will be determined in accordance with the provisions of the TAAN statute and that all members will be informed once the date is finalized. According to the notice, the AGM must be organized within six months of the completion of the fiscal year. Therefore, TAAN plans to set the new date by Mangsir 2083 or the first week of Poush 2083. The association has also requested that the District Administration Office, Kathmandu, be informed about the postponement through an official letter.
Tourism Sector Faces Disruption
The postponement comes as Nepal’s tourism industry continues to deal with the consequences of the Bhote Koshi disaster. The flood caused extensive damage along the river corridor and affected tourism-related destinations and infrastructure. The scale of the disaster has also prompted continued search, rescue, and relief efforts in the affected areas. For TAAN, the AGM is an important annual gathering where members review the association’s activities and discuss issues affecting Nepal’s trekking and tourism businesses. The association will now announce the revised AGM schedule after determining a date within the timeframe prescribed by its statute.
