Tenzing Norgay Sherpa Open Climbing Competition Concludes Successfully

The second edition of the Tenzing Norgay Sherpa Open Climbing Competition, jointly organized by the US-Nepal Climber Association and the Nepal National Mountain Guide Association, concluded successfully on Thursday. The final competition took place at Krimpanzee Adventure Hub in Boudha, where eight male and eight female climbers competed for the top positions.

In the men’s category, Vincent Sablich secured first place, followed by Dipan Gurung in second and Paul Schmidt in third. Chhering Gyaltzen Sherpa and Sajan Lama claimed the fourth and fifth positions, respectively. Meanwhile, in the women’s category, Tamsin Hunt emerged as the winner, with Mingma Yangji Sherpa in second place and Phura Diki Sherpa in third. Santoshi Magar and Deepa Lamichhane finished in fourth and fifth place, respectively.

The winners were awarded certificates and cash prizes by Tanka Lal Ghising, Member Secretary of the National Sports Council Nepal. The top three winners in both categories received cash prizes of NPR 45,000, NPR 30,000, and NPR 15,000, respectively. Additionally, the fourth and fifth-place finishers were presented with gift hampers. Special recognition in the form of gift hampers was also given to the youngest and eldest participants in both categories.

The event highlighted Nepal’s growing climbing community and provided a platform for emerging climbers to showcase their skills. Organizers expressed their commitment to continuing this annual competition to further promote rock climbing and mountaineering sports in Nepal.
