Tourism Associations Discuss Draft Tourism Policy 2081 BS in Joint Interaction Program

On December 29, 2024, major tourism industry associations gathered for a joint interaction program to deliberate on the Draft Tourism Policy 2081 BS and provide concrete suggestions for its refinement. The event was collaboratively organized by the Trekking Agencies’ Association of Nepal (TAAN), Hotel Association Nepal (HAN), Nepal Association of Tour and Travel Agents (NATTA), and Nepal Mountaineering Association (NMA).

The program brought together representatives from national tourism associations, tourism-related organizations, political party-affiliated tourism groups, and ethnic community-based tourism organizations. It aimed to address sector-specific concerns and refine the policy framework to better align with the needs of Nepal’s tourism industry.

Two-Session Deliberation Process

The interaction program was divided into two sessions.

First Session:
This session was exclusively attended by private sector representatives. TAAN President Sagar Pandey welcomed the participants, while Dr. Ganesh Prasad Pandey, Secretary of the Ministry of Culture, Tourism, and Civil Aviation (MoCTCA), graced the event as the Chief Guest. Discussions focused on sector-wise issues and suggestions presented by the key tourism associations. Critical insights were documented during this session for further deliberation.

Second Session:
The second session included both private and government sector representatives. It featured a keynote address by Indu Ghimire, Joint Secretary of MoCTCA, who attended as a Special Guest. The session presented the key recommendations prepared during the first session to a broader audience, including representatives from MoCTCA, Nepal Tourism Board (NTB), Department of Immigration (DoI), Department of Archaeology (DoA), Province Tourism Office Kathmandu, National Trust for Nature Conservation (NTNC), and other relevant bodies.

Key Remarks and Suggestions

Prominent tourism leaders, including HAN President Binayak Shah, NATTA President Kumar Mani Thapalia, and NMA Senior Vice President Thakur Raj Pandey, delivered their remarks, highlighting the importance of aligning the draft policy with the evolving dynamics of Nepal’s tourism sector.

Next Steps

Tourism associations are now set to finalize their collective suggestions based on the discussions and submit them to the Ministry of Culture, Tourism, and Civil Aviation. The collaborative efforts aim to ensure that the Draft Tourism Policy 2081 BS effectively addresses the challenges and opportunities within the industry, paving the way for sustainable growth in Nepal’s tourism sector.
