Minister for Culture, Tourism, and Civil Aviation, Badri Prasad Pandey, conducted an inspection of the ongoing infrastructure development at Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA). The projects under review included the parallel taxiway, international apron, and hangar apron, among other facilities aimed at enhancing the airport’s capacity.
The inspection was part of a visit by a ministerial team to assess the progress of capacity expansion efforts at Nepal’s busiest international airport. According to the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN), the construction work has been underway since November 9, with daily flight operations suspended for 10 hours to facilitate the upgrades.

During the inspection, Minister Pandey expressed satisfaction with the progress and voiced confidence that the projects would be completed on time, leading to more efficient flight services. Dipendra Shrestha, head of the Air Transport Capacity Enhancement Project under CAAN, reported that three separate contracts have been executed to ensure timely completion of the work.
Once the upgrades are completed, TIA’s runway capacity is expected to increase by 20 to 25 percent, significantly improving air traffic management. This development is anticipated to enhance Nepal’s aviation infrastructure, catering to the growing number of international and domestic travelers.
