As the spring tourism season approaches, tourist activity has begun in the Khumbu region, home to the world’s highest peak, Mount Everest. On the first day of the spring season (March-May), which was Saturday, a total of 166 foreign tourists arrived at Tenzing-Hillary Airport in Lukla via 18 flights.

These tourists included 97 men and 69 women, who landed at Lukla Airport through flights operated by various private airlines and helicopters. On Saturday, there were 18 flights in total 6 by Tara Air, 4 by Sita Air, 3 by Summit Air, and 5 helicopter flights.

According to District Police Chief DSP Dwarika Prasad Ghimire, 53 foreign tourists departed on the first day of the season. He mentioned that the weather at Lukla Airport remained clear from morning until afternoon.

Tourism entrepreneur Nirajan Sharma stated that foreign tourists arriving amid snowfall in the Khumbu region have started enjoying the snow. Since spring is the prime season for mountaineering, this period sees a higher influx of tourists to the Khumbu region.

Foreign climbers come to scale major peaks such as Everest, Lhotse, Ama Dablam, and Cho Oyu, as well as some smaller peaks. In recent years, the interest of foreign climbers in mountaineering has been increasing.
