Chitwan National Park and its surrounding buffer zones have recorded the deaths of 12 rhinos in the first five months of the current fiscal year. According to park information officer Abinash Thapamagar, the deceased include four males and five females, while the gender of three remains unidentified. Among them, one was found killed by electric shock.

In the same period, a tiger was also discovered dead. On December 1, a six-year-old tiger was reported dead after a territorial fight at Nandpur Ghat under the Amaltari Sector, Thapamagar added.

Human Casualties and Injuries

Two individuals lost their lives, and four others sustained injuries from rhino attacks in the past five months. The deceased were residents of Bardaghat-Susta East in Nawalpur District, according to the park’s records.

Anti-Poaching and Conservation Efforts

Chitwan National Park has taken significant action to curb illegal activities, apprehending 150 individuals involved in various offenses. These include poaching rhinos for their horns, tiger-related crimes, keeping wild boars without permission, illegal fishing, collecting firewood and grass, and harvesting fiddlehead ferns without authorization. Legal action has been initiated against all offenders, Thapamagar confirmed.

The park continues to prioritize wildlife conservation and the prevention of illegal activities to protect its diverse ecosystem.
