The 6th Bengal Himalayan Carnival is set to take place from 30 January to 1 February 2026, celebrating the rich cultural heritage, tourism potential, and natural beauty of the Bengal Himalayan region. The three-day event is being organized by the Himalayan Hospitality & Tourism Development Network (HHTDN) in association with the Tourism Department, Government of West Bengal, with support from the Department of Tourism, Gorkhaland Territorial Administration (GTA), and the Nepal Tourism Board (NTB).
The carnival will be hosted across multiple scenic locations, including Chalsa–Murti, Loleygaon–Keffergaon, and Sittong, offering visitors a unique opportunity to experience the diverse landscapes and cultures of the eastern Himalayan belt.

Promoting Regional Tourism and Cultural Exchange
The Bengal Himalayan Carnival has emerged as a key platform for promoting sustainable tourism, regional cooperation, and cultural exchange among Himalayan destinations. The event aims to showcase the tourism offerings of the Darjeeling hills and the Dooars region while strengthening cross-border collaboration between India and Nepal.
Organizers stated that the carnival will highlight the shared cultural heritage, traditions, cuisine, and lifestyles of Himalayan communities, encouraging responsible tourism and community participation. The involvement of Nepal Tourism Board further strengthens the event’s international dimension and promotes Nepal as a neighboring tourism destination.
Diverse Programs Across Three Days
The three-day carnival will feature a wide range of activities, including cultural performances, folk music and dance, traditional cuisine showcases, tourism exhibitions, and adventure tourism promotion. Each host location, Chalsa-Murti, Loleygaon-Keffergaon, and Sittong, will present its unique identity, offering visitors a comprehensive experience of the region’s cultural and natural diversity.
Tourism entrepreneurs, hospitality professionals, artisans, and local communities are expected to actively participate, creating opportunities for networking, business promotion, and destination branding.
Strengthening Sustainable and Community-Based Tourism
A key focus of the 6th Bengal Himalayan Carnival is the promotion of sustainable and community-based tourism. The event aims to create awareness about eco-friendly travel practices, conservation of natural resources, and inclusive tourism development that benefits local communities. By engaging local stakeholders and highlighting lesser-known destinations, the carnival seeks to distribute tourism benefits more evenly and support long-term regional development.

Support from Government and Tourism Stakeholders
The association of the Tourism Department, Government of West Bengal, the Gorkhaland Territorial Administration, and the Nepal Tourism Board reflects strong institutional support for the carnival. Officials noted that such collaborative events play an important role in strengthening tourism ties, improving destination visibility, and boosting visitor arrivals.
As the 6th edition of the Bengal Himalayan Carnival approaches, organizers expressed confidence that the event will further enhance the region’s tourism profile and foster stronger partnerships among Himalayan destinations. The carnival is expected to attract domestic and international visitors, contributing to economic growth, cultural preservation, and sustainable tourism development in the region.
