With the objective of spreading the message of peace from Nepal to the world, the 2026 edition of “Tour de Lumbini – Pedal for Peace (TDL-P4P)” is scheduled to take place from Baisakh 15 to 19, 2083 (April 28 to May 2, 2026). The five-day cycling journey will cover the route from Kathmandu to Lumbini, the sacred birthplace of Lord Gautam Buddha.
The event will bring together cyclists, youth participants, corporate representatives, and media personnel from Nepal and several other countries, highlighting Nepal’s growing role in global peace advocacy through sports and community engagement.

A Campaign Rooted in Post-Conflict Peace Building
In the context of Nepal’s transition following a decade-long armed conflict, the country has been steadily moving forward on a path of peace, reconciliation, coexistence, and reconstruction. The TDL-P4P initiative, launched in 2012, has continued to promote these values through symbolic and participatory cycling campaigns. The concept was developed by social entrepreneur and Ashoka Fellow Megh Ale, while world cyclist Pushkar Shah has been leading the campaign’s execution and outreach over the years.

Senior Officer of the Nepal Tourism Board, Robin Regmi, expressed confidence that such initiatives would significantly contribute to branding Nepal at the international level, adding that increasing the number of foreign participants would further strengthen the campaign and support tourism promotion.

Similarly, the board’s media consultant, Dilip Prakash Karki, stated that the relevance of the initiative would grow even more if Nepal could bring globally conflicting parties to Lumbini for peace dialogue amid rising global conflicts. He emphasized that the “Tour de Lumbini – Pedal for Peace” campaign has been consistently delivering messages of peace, coexistence, and global solidarity through cycling.
Promoting Nepal as a Global “Peace State”
The core vision of the campaign is to project Lumbini as a global center for peace dialogue and to position Nepal as a “Peace State” on the international stage. Organizers emphasize Nepal’s unique geopolitical location between two major global economies, India and China, and believe this positioning can help the country emerge as a meaningful platform for peace, dialogue, and cultural diplomacy. The campaign aims to use cycling as a medium to symbolically connect communities, cultures, and nations under the shared values of peace and cooperation.
Focus on Youth Participation and Digital Engagement
The 2026 edition will place special emphasis on the active participation of Gen Z youth from Nepal. Organizers aim to combine physical endurance with digital engagement and social responsibility, creating a platform for young people to voice their aspirations for a sustainable, transparent, and peaceful future. Through social media campaigns, interactive storytelling, and on-ground participation, the initiative seeks to bridge traditional advocacy with modern digital activism.

Local Participation and Global Context
According to organizers, local communities along the Kathmandu–Lumbini route will also actively participate in various segments of the journey, making the campaign more inclusive and community-driven.
They further noted that in the current global context, marked by ongoing conflicts such as the Russia–Ukraine war and tensions involving Iran and the United States, grassroots peace initiatives like TDL-P4P have become even more relevant and necessary. The campaign seeks to reinforce the message that peace can be promoted not only through diplomatic channels but also through people-to-people movements and cultural actions.

Vision for Lumbini Peace Award
As part of its long-term vision, the organizers have expressed their intention to establish the “Lumbini Peace Award” in the future. The award would recognize individuals and organizations that have made significant contributions to promoting peace at national and international levels. This initiative is expected to further strengthen Lumbini’s identity as a global symbol of peace and spiritual harmony.

Campaign with a Legacy Since 2012
Tour de Lumbini – Pedal for Peace (TDL-P4P) is a long-running social campaign that promotes messages of peace, coexistence, and global solidarity through cycling. Since its inception in 2012, the initiative has aimed to elevate Lumbini as a global hub for peace dialogue while inspiring individuals to engage in peaceful action through non-traditional platforms.
Call for Collaboration and Support
The organizers have extended gratitude to all partners, participants, and stakeholders for their continued support and collaboration. They expressed confidence that the 2026 edition will further strengthen Nepal’s global image as a country committed to peace, dialogue, and sustainable development. With increasing participation and international attention, Tour de Lumbini–Pedal for Peace continues to evolve as a unique blend of sport, spirituality, and social transformation.
