Nepal’s tourism sector has continued its strong recovery momentum, with the country welcoming 91,363 international tourists in June 2026, reflecting a 19.5 percent increase compared to the same month in 2025. According to data released by Nepal Tourism Board (NTB), the latest tourist arrival figures indicate sustained growth in international travel demand and strengthening confidence in Nepal as a global tourism destination.

Official statistics based on records from the Department of Immigration Nepal show that Nepal had received 76,425 foreign visitors in June 2025. The latest figures also indicate that Nepal has now surpassed pre-pandemic tourism performance, as arrivals in June 2026 stand 22.01 percent higher than June 2019, when the country recorded 74,883 tourist arrivals before the global COVID-19 pandemic disrupted international travel worldwide.

India Remains Nepal’s Largest Tourism Source Market

Among Nepal’s international tourists source markets, neighboring India continued to dominate tourist arrivals, with 41,809 Indian visitors arriving during June, maintaining its position as Nepal’s single largest tourism market. India alone accounted for a substantial share of overall arrivals, supported by strong religious tourism, leisure travel, family visits, and increasing air and land connectivity between the two countries.

Countries within the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation region collectively contributed 48,254 tourists, accounting for 52.8 percent of total international arrivals, highlighting South Asia’s continued importance in Nepal’s tourism economy.

United States and China Emerge as Major Long-Haul Tourism Markets

The United States ranked as Nepal’s second-largest international tourists market during June, contributing 11,836 visitors. Tourism officials say strong interest in trekking, adventure tourism, cultural tourism, and family visits continues driving higher visitor numbers from the American market.

China remained Nepal’s third-largest source market, with 9,995 Chinese tourists visiting Nepal during the month. Industry observers note that improved flight connectivity and renewed tourism promotion campaigns in China are gradually restoring Nepal’s position among Chinese outbound travelers.

Bangladesh and Australia Enter Top Five Tourism Source Markets

Emerging regional market Bangladesh ranked fourth among Nepal’s top tourism source countries, with 4,322 Bangladeshi tourists arriving during June 2026. Tourism stakeholders believe growing regional travel demand and increasing air connectivity are helping strengthen Bangladesh as an important short-haul market for Nepal.

Meanwhile, Australia secured fifth position with 2,896 visitors, continuing to remain one of Nepal’s strongest long-haul tourism markets, particularly for trekking, mountaineering, adventure travel, and nature-based tourism experiences.

The Oceania market recorded one of the strongest year-on-year growth rates, increasing 56.35 percent compared to 2025 and 57.17 percent higher than pre-pandemic 2019 levels, reflecting growing confidence among long-haul travelers. Nepal also welcomed visitors from Africa, the Middle East, and Latin America, indicating broader diversification of its tourism market.
