In a bid to preserve local culture and promote tourism, the Teej Song Festival and Competition was held at Barahighat, located on the shores of Pokhara’s famous Fewa Lake. The event saw the Sanjeevani Didi Bahini Group from Pokhara Metropolitan City-6, Baidam, take first place among the 22 participating groups.
The festival, organized by the Tourism Entrepreneur Women’s Association (TEWAN) Pokhara, awarded the winning Sanjeevani group a prize of NPR 30,000. The Sahansheel Didi Bahini Group from Pokhara secured second place, earning NPR 20,000, while the Amarsingh Visually Impaired Group from Pokhara took third place with a prize of NPR 15,000. Additionally, 12 groups received consolation prizes of NPR 5,000 each, according to TEWAN President Kamala Giri.
The second edition of this Teej Song Festival was inaugurated on Friday by Mitra Lal Basyal, Minister of Industry and Tourism for Gandaki Province. Alongside the singing competition, a tug-of-war contest was held, in which the Inclusive Mothers Group emerged victorious. Indira Acharya was also recognized for performing continuously for two days during the event.
TEWAN initiated the festival following Pokhara’s declaration as the tourism capital. President Giri noted that the festival aims not only to preserve traditional Nepali culture but also to promote Pokhara as a prime tourist destination. This year marked the second edition of the Teej Song Festival, which drew enthusiastic participation from local cultural groups.
The event is expected to contribute to both the preservation of Pokhara’s unique cultural heritage and its growing appeal as a tourism hub.
