Hanuman Dhoka Durbar Square Sees Lingo Erection on Indra Jatra

On the occasion of Indra Jatra, a significant ritual took place this morning at Hanuman Dhoka Durbar Square. According to tradition, a lingo (a ceremonial pole) adorned with the Indradhwaja (a flag symbolizing Lord Indra) was erected in front of the Hanuman Dhoka Durbar.

The lingo, which was brought to Kathmandu from Chittapol in Bhaktapur by the Manandhar community, was ceremoniously set up following traditional rites and rituals. This act marks an important element of the Indra Jatra festival, celebrating the harvest season and honoring the deity Indra.

The erection of the lingo is a symbolic gesture reflecting the rich cultural heritage and vibrant traditions of Kathmandu. The event, attended by numerous devotees and locals, signifies the continuation of ancient customs and the community’s dedication to preserving their cultural practices.
