Tourist Season Boosts Trekkers’ Arrival on Annapurna Trekking Route

The Annapurna trekking route has seen a significant rise in the number of trekkers with the onset of the tourist season. Known as the second most popular trekking destination in Nepal after the Khumbu region, the Annapurna Circuit is currently welcoming more than 150 tourists per day.

Bhupendra Gurung, Chief of the Dharapani-based Tourist Information Centre at the Annapurna Conservation Area Project (ACAP) in Manang district, confirmed the increased footfall. He stated that daily arrivals of trekkers have surged to 150 since the start of the season. Gurung also noted that this uptick in tourist arrivals has positively impacted local businesses, with hoteliers along the route benefiting from increased economic activity and higher occupancy rates.

So far in 2024, 12,355 tourists have visited the Annapurna trekking route, a marked increase compared to 10,897 visitors during the same period last year. French nationals make up the largest group of visitors, followed by trekkers from Israel, Germany, and India.

The Annapurna Circuit offers stunning views of the Himalayas and the rugged terrain of the hilly regions. Many trekkers complete the route by crossing the famous Thorang La Pass and journeying onward to Mustang or Pokhara. This influx of tourists underscores the enduring appeal of the Annapurna region as a top trekking destination in Nepal.
