National Tourism Conference Inauguration Highlights the Need for Research in Nepal’s Tourism Sector

The Chief Executive Officer of the Nepal Tourism Board, Mr. Deepak Raj Joshi, underscored the critical role of research in unlocking Nepal’s full tourism potential during the inauguration of the National Tourism Conference held in Kathmandu. The event was organized by the Tourism Research and Training Institute (TRTI) and aimed at bringing together key stakeholders to discuss the future of tourism in Nepal.

In his address, Mr. Joshi highlighted the Nepal Tourism Board’s commitment to collaborating with various stakeholders to position Nepal as a “lifetime experience” in key global markets. He emphasized that while Nepal holds immense promise as a tourist destination, there has been insufficient research to capitalize on this potential fully.

“Nepal is incredibly diverse in its tourism offerings, but globally, it’s primarily recognized for its mountaineering and adventure tourism,” Mr. Joshi stated. He added that ongoing efforts are focused on showcasing Nepal as a destination that offers unforgettable, once-in-a-lifetime experiences beyond just adventure tourism.

The conference also highlighted the involvement of students from 130 National Sustainable Tourism Clubs formed in schools across the country. These clubs, supported by the Sustainable Tourism for Livelihood Recovery Project (STLRP) – a joint initiative between the Nepal Tourism Board and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) – are pivotal in educating and training future tourism leaders.

The National Tourism Conference served as a platform for stakeholders to discuss strategies for promoting Nepal’s diverse tourism offerings. It underscored the importance of research and collaboration in achieving these goals.
