Government Fines Hotel Everest and Boutique Hotel Basera for Violations

The government has fined Hotel Everest and Boutique Hotel Basera Rs. 300,000 each for violating consumer protection regulations. According to Rajan Paudel, Director General of the Department of Commerce, Supplies, and Consumer Protection, expired food items were found in the kitchen during an inspection of Hotel Everest, located in New Baneshwor.

Similarly, during an inspection of Boutique Hotel Basera in Babarmahal, the hotel was found selling bottled water at prices higher than the Maximum Retail Price (MRP).

Both hotels were fined for conducting business practices deemed harmful to consumer interests, as per the department’s statement. The department has intensified inspections as the festive season approaches, with a total of 39 firms inspected on Monday alone.

Recently, the Hotel Association Nepal (HAN) circulated a notice to over 300 hotels, claiming that an agreement had been reached with the government to halt such inspections. However, following the media leak of this circular, the department has ramped up its monitoring activities aggressively.
