In a bid to address the ongoing dispute surrounding the Gaushala Dharmshala, Minister for Culture, Tourism, and Civil Aviation Badri Prasad Pandey has convened a meeting of the Pashupati Area Development Trust (PADT). During this meeting, he has also instructed the Trust to refrain from any activities related to the Dharmshala.
Minister Pandey, who also serves as the chairman of the PADT, expressed concerns in a letter dated October 16, stating that “issues of peace and security have arisen.” He directed the Trust to halt any efforts to evict the Gaushala Dharmshala.
Additionally, the minister has called for a council meeting of the PADT to be held on October 20 at the Ministry of Culture, Tourism, and Civil Aviation, as confirmed by PADT spokesperson Rewati Raman Adhikari.
The dispute emerged after the Trust announced that it would not allow any individual or commercial entity to operate the Dharmshala, which is state-owned property under its full ownership. Instead, the Trust plans to manage the facility in collaboration with the Kathmandu Metropolitan City in a non-profit manner. This decision has met with opposition from the Marwari Seva Samiti, which previously managed the Dharmshala and has protested the Trust’s decision.
