National flag carrier, Nepal Airlines (Nepal Air), has announced discounts on international flight fares, responding to growing concerns about rising airfare costs. According to the airline’s spokesperson, Ramesh Paudel, passengers can avail of a discount ranging from NPR 2,500 to NPR 5,000, depending on the route.
The discounts will apply to flights from Kathmandu to several international destinations. For sectors such as New Delhi, Mumbai, and Bangalore in India, a discount of up to NPR 2,500 will be offered. Meanwhile, for flights to Doha (Qatar), Dubai (UAE), Dammam (Saudi Arabia), Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia), Hong Kong, Bangkok (Thailand), and Narita (Japan), passengers will receive up to NPR 5,000 off on market fares.
This initiative follows special instructions from the Ministry of Culture, Tourism, and Civil Aviation, aimed at reducing airfare costs on international routes. The move comes after increasing complaints about rising airfares, prompting Tourism Minister Badri Prasad Pandey to instruct airlines to provide fare details within 24 hours.
Minister Pandey had previously urged airlines to implement an agreement made during discussions with regulatory bodies to control airfare increases, a move that was not fully executed, leading to further public dissatisfaction.
Additionally, as part of its corporate social responsibility, Nepal Airlines has provided significant discounts on flights for cancer patients. Between November 1 and 22, 37 cancer patients and 33 accompanying family members were offered discounted tickets on round-trip flights to New Delhi, based on medical reports and recommendations from the Nepal Cancer Relief Society.
