Chhatur Tamang Scales Mount Elbrus for 166th Time

Renowned mountaineer and guide Chatur Tamang has successfully completed his 166th ascent of Mount Elbrus, Europe’s highest peak, located in Russia. The climb was achieved on January 2 at 10:30 AM (Russian time), marking yet another milestone in his illustrious mountaineering career.

Standing at an elevation of 5,642 meters, Mount Elbrus has been a central focus for Tamang, who now aims to climb the peak 200 times. Reflecting on his achievement, Tamang stated, “I haven’t pursued this for records, but as a natural outcome of my work as a guide and my passion for climbing. As long as my body supports me, I will continue to climb.”

Tamang has been residing in Russia for an extended period and began guiding climbers on Mount Elbrus in 2002. Over the years, he has also conquered some of the world’s most formidable peaks, including Everest, Lhotse, Kanchenjunga, Cho Oyu, Manaslu, Ama Dablam, Baruntse, Island Peak, Mera Peak, and Aconcagua.

This remarkable journey not only underscores Tamang’s dedication to mountaineering but also highlights his pivotal role as a guide, inspiring climbers worldwide to embrace the challenges of high-altitude adventures.
