Elina Chaudhary, a nature guide at Barahi Jungle Lodge in Chitwan, has been honored with the prestigious ‘TOF Tigers Lush Naturalist’ award. She triumphed over five other finalists to secure this year’s award, which was presented to her last Friday at a ceremony held at the Bikaner House in New Delhi, India.
Chaudhary was recognized for her exceptional contributions to wildlife conservation, sustainable tourism, and the empowerment of women in a field traditionally dominated by men. She is the only woman to have received this award in 2024.
Her passion for nature and dedication to conservation stem from her family background. Elina credits her father, D.B. Chaudhary, an active figure in tourism, and her grandfather, involved in wildlife protection, for inspiring her career path. In 2019, she received certification as a nature guide from the National Trust for Nature Conservation (NTNC), and since 2021, she has worked at Barahi Jungle Lodge. Her significant involvement in bird conservation projects at Chitwan National Park further underscores her commitment to environmental protection.
Prakash Chand, the general manager of Barahi Jungle Lodge, expressed pride in Elina’s success, calling it a testament to the strength and dedication of women in the conservation sector. He added that Elina’s hard work and passion are transforming the landscape of wildlife conservation and tourism. Chand also highlighted that this prestigious award honors not only Elina but also Barahi Jungle Lodge’s efforts toward inclusivity and women’s empowerment. The lodge remains committed to creating a supportive environment for women and offering more leadership opportunities in the future.
Located along the banks of the Rapti River in Chitwan National Park, Barahi Jungle Lodge is an eco-friendly destination focused on promoting wildlife conservation and biodiversity while providing guests with a comfortable hospitality experience.
