Continuous Snowfall Disrupts Humla Flights; Air Services Resume After Runway Clearance

Following continuous snowfall from Sunday night to Monday afternoon, air services at Simkot Airport in Humla, which had been disrupted due to snow accumulation, have resumed today.

According to Mahendra Singh, Head of the Civil Aviation Authority in Humla, the flights were able to operate after the runway was cleared of snow by Nepal Police, Armed Police Force personnel, and other security teams. Despite some snow in the parking area melting naturally, the runway required significant efforts for clearance.

The snowfall had caused the suspension of all air services on Monday. However, with clear weather conditions today, the airport reopened for operations early in the morning.

Sita Air and Tara Air each conducted one flight from Nepalgunj, while Sita Air additionally operated two flights connecting Nepalgunj and Surkhet, according to Surya Lama, a representative from Sita Air’s Simkot station.

Simkot Airport is regularly served by Sita Air, Summit Air, Tara Air, and Nepal Airlines, which conduct flights to and from Nepalgunj. The resumption of flights marks a relief for travelers impacted by the temporary disruption caused by heavy snowfall.
