The recent earthquake damaged the Thame Post Office building in Sagarmatha National Park, Solukhumbu. According to Sushma Rana, the park’s Chief Conservation Officer, cracks have appeared in the one-story stone building in Thametang of Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality-5. Two staff members were residing in the affected building at the time of the incident.
Chief District Officer Anoj Kumar Ghimire reported that the earthquake also caused damage to one house each in Deusa, Khari Khola, and Thame areas of the district. Local authorities and security personnel have initiated inspections and are collecting details of the damage across the affected regions.
The earthquake, measuring 6.8 on the Richter scale, struck at 6:50 AM, with its epicenter located in Dingyi County of the Tibet Autonomous Region in China. The tremors have raised concerns over the structural integrity of buildings in the area, prompting swift action from local administrative and safety bodies to assess the extent of the damage.
