The construction to connect Dhorpatan Hunting Reserve, Nepal’s sole hunting reserve, to Myagdi district has begun. The project involves linking the reserve from Myagdi’s district headquarters in Beni Bazaar, extending through Darbang, Muna, Mareni, and Patihalna before reaching the Jaljala region in Dhorpatan.
While Dhorpatan was connected to Baglung a decade ago, approximately 10 kilometers of road track remains to be opened from Myagdi. The road construction, initiated in 2067 BS from Darbang, has yet to reach completion. This fiscal year, the federal government allocated a budget specifically for this road extension, aiming to expedite the connectivity process.
According to Baglung’s Road Division Engineer Amar Adhikari, this year’s budget includes NPR 50 million dedicated to road track opening, adding to last year’s NPR 20 million, which helped construct 5 kilometers of road. Efforts are currently underway to complete the remaining stretch, with the contract process moving forward to ensure further progress.
Engineer Adhikari noted, “We made headway last year with a significant portion of the road completed, but geographical challenges have hindered final connectivity. With this year’s budget, we aim to push further, and work is set to commence soon.”
Vice Chairperson of Dhaulagiri Rural Municipality, Resham Pun Magar, shared that connecting Dhorpatan via a 10-kilometer track from Dhaulagiri-2 Mareni to Patihalna would provide enhanced accessibility. From Beni Bazaar to Patihalna, approximately 76 kilometers of the 86-kilometer route has been opened. This road, labeled a “tourism road,” promises to create a shorter route for visitors from Kathmandu, Pokhara, and other cities aiming to reach Dhorpatan.
Pun stated, “This road project has been in development for years. Once transportation services begin, it will not only ease access for locals from Mangala, Malika, and Dhaulagiri rural municipalities in Myagdi but also cut down travel time for tourists visiting Dhorpatan. With the road operational, we anticipate a significant increase in tourist arrivals.”
The completion of this project is expected to not only enhance local transportation but also stimulate tourism, positioning Dhorpatan as a prominent destination for both domestic and international visitors.
